Pleasant Valley School District

The new 170,000 SF building consists of a two-story classroom with a one-story administration, gymnasium, cafeteria, and library area. The main entrance opens into a lobby adjacent to the administration offices and gymnasium entrance. The lobby leads to a main corridor, or “street”, which can be used for informal gatherings and exhibits. This street is flanked by the gymnasium, locker rooms, large group instruction, technology education, and library along the east side and two exterior courtyards on the west side. Just beyond the main street is a multi-purpose room, stage, kitchen, and service area. The school’s music rooms are adjacent to the stage. Parallel to the street is the two-story classroom block made up of 60 classrooms, special education resource rooms, and small group instruction rooms.

The project included full telecommunication systems including data, voice, intercom, video distribution, and media retrieval. The media retrieval integrates with the video distribution to allow for the access and retrieval of electronic media stored in the media room. The media can be accessed and displayed in any classroom.

The 47,000 SF addition added twelve (12) modular classrooms, two (2) new health classrooms, four (4) new physical education stations with new locker areas. The Administrative, Nurse and Counseling suites were made larger to support the 1,000 students. The existing cafeteria / kitchen area was modified to include a new 4,000 SF kitchen addition, which had facilities for kitchen personnel, food storage, dishwashing, a walk-in cooler, and a walk in freezer.

Security systems were added to establish a secure entrance to the building after classes begin and to monitor the movement of traffic once the school was occupied. Technology was upgraded to include the new phone system, clocks, bells and computer stations.
