INI, 4616 Henry St Renovations
Quad3 was called upon by CMU to design the Phase 1 renovations which included a total renovation of the ground floor. The key feature was the design of an advanced technology, 50-person Distance Education Center. Phase 2 of the project included the complete renovations of the 1st and 2nd floor and the upgrade of audio-visual systems installed under the Phase 1 work.
Key features of the Phase 2 renovations include:
- Staff spaces outfitted with ergonomic furniture, individual climate control, dimmable lighting, and writeable wall surfaces
- Student spaces were provided for group collaboration and private study including “Pods” with writeable wall surfaces
- Student media and projects rooms feature AV systems for on-line collaboration
- Restrooms and shower rooms
- Lactation rooms for nursing mothers featuring lounge chairs and refrigerators
- Standby generation that allows for uninterrupted use of the Distance Learning Center for extended periods during power outages
- Complete electronic security including CCTV cameras, access control, intrusion detection and emergency help stations
- Filtered water cooler / bottle filling stations with integral “Green Ticker” that counts the quantity of bottles saved from the landfill
- Low NOx boilers that are over 93% efficient
- Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) cooling systems that realizes up to 50% reduced electrical operating costs over conventional systems.
- High efficiency LED lighting with integrated digital control system that is 40% more energy efficient than current energy code standards
- Code-plus life safety systems including building-wide sprinkler and automatic fire detection systems
