Transmission Line, Carey Ave Bridge

67KV Transmission Line Relocation – Carey Avenue

Hanover Township, PA

Four (4) spans of a 67V transmission line had to be relocated to allow for the installation of a new PennDOT bridge crossing the Susquehanna River between Plymouth and Hanover Township.

The new transmission had to be designed and built in phases. Phase 1 required a temporary line to be constructed and the existing transmission line removed. The temporary line was constructed adjacent to and over the existing steel bridge using 75’, class 1 wood poles.

Phase 2 was the design and construction of the permanent transmission facilities. The permanent structures were constructed of single, Cor-10 steel, tubular structures ranging in size from 65’ to 85’. Two structures were located directly in the flood plain of the river and were constructed on concrete piers. The two remaining structures were directly embedded in earth. The average span between structures was 850’.
