12.47KV Electric System Conversion
Borough of Quakertown, Quakertown, PA
This project provided for the conversion of two of the Borough’s 4.16KV distribution systems to 12.47KV. The project required close coordination with Borough Management to assure that construction did not adversely affect customer during electric service cut-overs.
Design Phase I and II included:
• Installation & re-insulation of three phase and single phase aerial 12.47KV circuits
• Replacement of 100 utility poles
• Replacement of 125 distribution transformers
• Installation of approximately 1,500 circuit feet of 12.47KV underground primary
including 13-padmount transformers
• Consolidation of three unit substations including retrofitting of 2-1500KVA
transformers and HVL switches to an existing double-ended substation
• Removal of an obsolete 15MVA, 4.16KV Borough substation
• Installation of a 15KV, 1200A, 3-phase vacuum circuit breaker with controls and
protection at the Borough 12.47KV substation
• Installation of six – 600A GOAB sectionalizing switches
• Replacement of secondary mains and service drops
